Fundamentals class (advanced beginner) includes review and continuing practice of:

• ✓ water to pigment ratios,
• ✓ 3 types of washes, glazing
• ✓ introducing masking
• ✓ understanding value to create 3-D form
• ✓ small value study created each class
• ✓ basics of linear and aerial perspective
• ✓ painting backgrounds (wet in wet)

A new project each week, line drawings also provided for drawing or tracing. Subjects include: flowers, birds, fruit, vegetables, butterflies, fish, mammals, simple landscapes, and seascapes with emphasis on the effect of light.

This class will be geared for the complete beginner who has had little or no experience in watercolor. We will work on a number of skill-building exercises and small paintings, including:

• ✓ Brush control
• ✓ understanding tonal value or grey scale.
• ✓ Color mixing
• ✓ 3 main types of washes
• ✓ 10 main watercolor techniques
• ✓ beginning 3-D form, how light land on simple objects

There will be step-by-step demonstrations each class to help you learn the basic techniques of painting with this vibrant transparent medium.

Intermediate level builds on Fundamentals watercolor classes (advanced beginner). Live zoom classes. Pre-requisite: basic understanding of color mixing and water to pigment ratios, becoming comfortable with washes and the 4 major techniques. This class covers:

• ✓ Composition-do's and don'ts
• ✓ track of vision
• ✓ creating focal areas and linking areas of value
• ✓ working larger and honing your observation skills
• ✓ advanced color mixing and paint characteristics
• ✓ focus on hard, soft, and lost edges
• ✓ creating mood and content

• ✓ mixing grays + blacks + complementary colors
• ✓ color value, temperature + intensity/saturation

• ✓ creating color harmony
• ✓ creating a split primary color wheel
